Day 01 Chennai
On arrival you will be met by a representative of Kamalan Travels at the airport who will accompany you to the hotel and will assist with check-in formalities. You will spend the night at your hotel.
Day 02 Chennai – Kanchipuram – Mahabalipuram ( 170 Kms - 3 Hrs 30 )
After breakfast, you will explore Chennai. Here you will visit St George Fort, the first British fort in India built in 1639. It now houses a museum with artifacts from India’s colonial period.
Afterwards you will head to Mahabalipuram. On your way there you will visit Kanchipuram. Kanchipuram is known for being the city of a 1000 temples. It is also the home of the widely acclaimed Kanchipuram hand woven silk sarees. Here you will visit the Ekambareshwara Temple. This is one of the most important temples in the region and is dedicated Lord Shiva.
You will also visit Kailasanath Temple, one of the oldest in the area and replete with exquisite sculptures.
On arrival in Mahabalipuram, you will check in to your hotel where you will have dinner and spend the night.
Day 03 Mahabalipuram
After breakfast, will visit the Arjuna’s Penance, a huge bas-relief monolith depicting the Mahabharata dating back to the 7th Century.
You will also visit the Five Rathnas, five shrines that have been designated World Hertiage sites. Each of the shrines is a monolith carved out of pink granite and named after the five Pandava brothers from the Mahabharata.
Next comes a visit to the Shore Temple. Overlooking the Bay of Bengal, the Shore Temples is also a world heritage site. Built in the 8th century, the Shore Temple is a fine example of a structural temple built from granite.
You will then return to your hotel and have some free time to relax on the beach before returning to spend the night.
Day 04 Mahabalipuram – Tiruvannamalai ( 160 Kms - 3 Hrs 30 )
After breakfast, you will proceed to the temple town of Tiruvannamalai. This is an important pilgrimage town for followers of Lord Shiva. On arrival, you will check into your hotel.
In the afternoon, you will visit the Shiva Temple of Arunachaleshwar. This magnificent temple attracts thousands of visitors and the atmosphere is almost indescribable. You will return to your hotel to spend the night.
Day 05 Tiruvannamali – Pondicherry ( 140 Kms - 3 Hrs )
After breakfast, you will head to Pondicherry. Here you will check in to your hotel and in the afternoon, you will visit the Aurobindo Ashram. Founded in 1926 by Shri Aurobindo, the Aurobindo Ashram is a large institution that has various publications and charitable benefits to the area and that attracts thousands of visitors. The teachings of Shri Aurobindo continue to find followers and influence thought both in India and the west. Afterwards, you will take a walk around the city before returning to your hotel to spend the night.
Day 06 Pondicherry – Kumbakonam ( 140 Kms - 3 Hrs 30 )
After breakfast, you will leave for Kumbakonam. Two rivers bind this beautiful temple city.
En route you will visit the temples of Darasuram that date back to the second half of the 12th century. Next you will visit Gangakonda Cholapuram temple. This structure is an architectural marvel with many spectacular scultptures.
On arrival in Kumbakonam, you will check in to your hotel. In the late afternoon, you will visit the Sarangapani temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Afterwards, you will visit the Kumbeshwara Temple. Legend has it that the temple was created on a lingam that was fashioned by Lord Shiva himself.
Next you will visit the Nageshwara temple, perhaps one of the oldest temples in the region. You will return to your hotel to spend the night. On arrival in Kumbakonam, you will check in to your hotel. In the late afternoon, you will visit the Sarangapani temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Day 07 Kumbakonam – Thanjavur ( 37 Kms - 1 Hrs ) & Thanjavur – Chettinad ( 102 Kms - 2 Hrs 30 )
After breakfast, you will head to Chettinad. The region of Chettinad is well known for its cultural heritage and its culinary delicacies.
En route, you will visit Thanjavur. Here you will see the Brihadisvara Temple. This temple is a testament to the major architectural achievements of the Chola dynasty in the 11th century AD. The temple is the first one to be built completely in granite.
After this, you will visit the Bronze museum in Tanjore, a collection of bronze artifacts of rare artistic quality.
You will continue to Chettinad and on your arrival, you will check in to your hotel and spend the night.
Day 08 Chettinad
After breakfast, you will explore the Chettinad villages. Here you will experience the culture and traditions of the region first hand. You will return to your hotel for dinner and spend the night.
Day 09 Chettinad – Madurai ( 115 Kms - 2 Hrs 30 )
After breakfast you will leave for Madurai. On arrival you will check into your hotel and have lunch. Then you will leave for a visit of the Tirumalai Nayak Palace. King Tirumalai Nayak built this unique palace with the help of an Italian architect. The building was started circa 1620 and blends Dravidian, Islamic and European styles.
Next comes a visit to the Meenakshi Amman temple. This temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati, has 14 elaborately sculpted pillars. The temple is believed to have been built in the 1600’s.
After this you will explore the local markets and return to your hotel to spend the night.
Day 10 Madurai – Cape Comorin ( 250 Kms - 5 Hrs )
After breakfast, you will head to Cape Comorin, the southern most tip of the Indian Peninsula. Here you will check in to your hotel. In the afternoon, you will visit Kumari Amman Temple. Located close to the shore, this temple is dedicated to the virgin goddess Kanya Kumari.
Next you will visit the Gandhi memorial. Built in the style of an Orissan temple, this monument allows people to pay homage to Gandhi, the ambassador of peace. You will then return to your hotel to have dinner and spend the night.
Day 11 Cape comorin – Kovalam ( 65 Kms - 1 Hrs 30 )
This morning, you will have breakfast and head to the stunning beaches of Kovalam. The name Kovalam means ‘grove of coconut trees’ and the name does not disappoint. The beaches of Kovalam with their endless expanse of coconut groves are truly idyllic.
On arrival, you will check into your hotel and spend the day on the beach. You will return to your hotel to have dinner and spend the night.
Day 12 Kovalam
You can spend the day enjoying the fun and relaxation that the beaches of Kovalam have to offer. Swimming, surfing and Ayurvedic treatments are popular ways to spend you days at Kovalam.
Day 13 Kovalam – Trivandrum ( 16 Kms - 30 Mins )
After breakfast, you will head to Trivandrum airport to board your flight home.
EXTENSION GOA
Day 13 Trivandrum - Goa
After breakfast at your hotel, you will board your flight to Goa. On arrival, you will check in to your hotel. After lunch you will explore the Goan churches and cathedrals. You will start with a visit to the Se Cathedral. Consecrated in 1640, the cathedral is dedicated to Catherine of Alexandria.
Next you visit the Church of St Francis Xavier. Goans are deeply devoted to St Francis Xavier, and though the church has only one altar, this church offers visitors simple sanctity.
St. Catherine’s Church stands out as a pale yellow structure with distinctly Renaissance features. The Archaeological Survey of India now protects the church.
You will also see the Viceroy’s Arch. The arch was built as a memorial to Vasco De Gama and stands on the jetty of Old Goa. It is said that every Viceroy had to pass through this arch before taking office.
The Miramar beach is a beautiful golden beach with soft sand, and dotted with palm trees. With its captivating views, it is an ideal location for lovely long walks along the shore.
You will then return to your hotel to spend the night.
Day 14 & 15 Goa
Today you can explore the magnificent beaches of Goa. The many fine sand beaches in Goa have something to offer everyone. Whether it is quiet relaxation, busy flea markets, bars and parties or local cuisine, Goa’s beaches have it all.
Day 16 Goa - Mumbai
After breakfast, you will head to the airport to catch your flight to Mumbai. The bustling metropolis of Mumbai (formerly Bombay) was originally a collection of tiny fishing villages. In the mid 18th century, Mumbai emerged as an important trading town. Since then, Mumbai has only grown in importance and today is the financial capital of India.
Once you arrive, you will check into your hotel and then head our to explore the city.
You will visit the Gateway of India. This monument, located on the waterfront in South Mumbai, was erected to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary in 1911. The monument was completed in 1924. The monument was meant to be the first sight for all visitors coming to Bombay by boat.
You will also visit Chowpatty beach, a popular attraction for locals and tourists alike. People of all ages come here seeking fun and relaxation. It is dotted with kiosks and stalls of local street food.
The Prince of Wales Museum was founded in 1922 by prominent citizens of Mumbai. Divided primarily into 3 sections – art, archaeology and natural history, it houses more than 50,000 artifacts.
You will have dinner in the city before heading to the airport to board your flight home.
INSERTION ALLEPEY
Day 13 Kovalam- Thottapapali ~ Allepey ( 150 Kms - 3 Hrs 30 )
After breakfast, you will leave for Thottapaly by houseboat and have lunch on board. On the houseboat you will experience the serene pace of life in the backwaters and also appreciate the beauty of the water birds. You will have your meals and spend the night on the house boat.
Day 14 Allepey - Cochin ( 64 Kms - 1 Hrs 30 )
This morning, you will have breakfast and disembark at Alleppey. From here you will drive to Cochin. On arrival, you will check in to your hotel. In the afternoon, you will explore Cochin. You will visit Fort Cochin with its wealth of colonial architecture.
The extraordinary Chinese fishing nets are a sight to behold. These unusual, elegantly balanced, shore operated fishnets are 10m high and rumored to be of Chinese origin, possibly introduced by Zhang He.
A visit to the St Francis Church is also important, since it is the oldest European church in India built in 1503. Vasco de Gama was originally buried here, before he was moved to Lisbon.
You will also visit the Mattancherry or Dutch Palace. It was constructed by the Portuguese and gifted to the Raja of Kochi in 1555. It was created in the traditional style of architecture with a courtyard in the centre. It houses some of the finest murals of Hindu temple art
The Jewish synagogue in Cochin was built in 1568 and is of great historical importance. No visit to Cochin is complete without viewing its attractive collections. In the evening you will witness a Kathakali dance show, which involves the stunning use of masks, and make up. You will then head to the airport to board your flight home.
