Day 01 Trivandrum - Kovalam
On arrival, you will be met by a representative of Kamalan Travels at the airport who will accompany you to your hotel in Kovalam and help you check in. The name Kovalam means ‘grove of coconut trees’ and the name does not disappoint. The beaches of Kovalam with their endless expanse of coconut groves are truly idyllic.
Here you will have lunch and relax on the beach, and return to your hotel to spend the night.
Day 02 Kovalam – Cape Comorin – Kovalam ( 65 Kms - 1 Hrs 30 )
After breakfast, you will leave for Kanyakumari. You will visit the Padmanathapuram Palace. Built in 1601, this is beautiful example of traditional Kerala architecture with delicate wooden latticework.
Once at Cape Comorin, you can enjoy at boat ride and visit two rocky islets off the shore. These are famous as an area for meditation where Swami Vivekananda (a noted Hindu saint) is said to have sat in deep meditation. Here you will experience the spectacular sunset from the tip of the Indian Peninsula. Afterwards, you will return to Kovalam and check in to your hotel. You will have dinner and spend the night here.
Day 03 Kovalam
This morning you will have breakfast and spend the day relaxing at the beach. You spend the night at your hotel.
Day 04 Kovalam- Allepey (185 Kms - 5 Hrs )
After breakfast, you will leave for Alleppey and board your houseboat and have lunch on board. On the houseboat you will experience the serene pace of life in the backwaters and also appreciate the beauty of the water birds. You will have dinner and spend the night on the houseboat.
Day 05 Allepey – Cochin ( 64 Kms - 1 Hrs 30 )
This morning, you will have breakfast on board the houseboat. You will disembark and head to Cochin. Here you will check in at your hotel and have lunch.
You will have the afternoon at leisure. In the evening, you will witness the traditional Kathakali dance, which involves the stunning use of masks, and make up. You will return to your hotel to spend the night.
Day 06 Cochin
After breakfast, you will visit Cochin city. You will start with Fort Cochin with its wealth of colonial architecture. Then you will see the extraordinary Chinese fishing nets that are a sight to behold. These unusual, elegantly balanced, shore operated fishnets are 10m high and rumored to be of Chinese origin, possibly introduced by Zhang He.
A visit to the St Francis Church is also important, since it is the oldest European church in India built in 1503. Vasco de Gama was originally buried here, before he was moved to Lisbon.
The Jewish synagogue in Cochin was built in 1568 and is of great historical importance. No visit to Cochin is complete without viewing its attractive collections. You will also visit the Mattancherry or Dutch Palace. It was constructed by the Portuguese and gifted to the Raja of Kochi in 1555. It was created in the traditional style of architecture with a courtyard in the centre. It houses some of the finest murals of Hindu temple art.
In the evening, you will visit Ernakulam, the commercial capital of Kerala and have some time for shopping. You will return to your hotel to spend the night.
Day 07 Cochin – Periyar ( 202 kms - 5 Hrs )
After breakfast, you will head to Periyar. Famous for its tiger reserve and national park, Periyar is surrounded by spice plantations, tea gardens and rubber plantations. Here you will check into your hotel and have lunch. You will then have some time to explore the flora and fauna of the region. In the evening, you will return to your hotel to spend the night.
You will have dinner and spend the night here.
Day 08 Periyar
After breakfast, you will have the day at leisure. The resort has many activities on offer including a boat ride on Lake Periyar to see animals in their natural habitat.
You may also choose to take nature treks or visit the local spice plantations; take an elephant safari or go bamboo rafting. You will have dinner at your hotel before turning in for the night,
Day 09 Periyar – Madurai ( 140 Kms - 3 Hrs 30 )
After breakfast you will leave for Madurai. On arrival you will check into your hotel and have lunch. Then you will leave for a visit of the Tirumalai Nayak Palace. King Tirumalai Nayak built this unique palace with the help of an Italian architect. The building was started circa 1620 and blends Dravidian, Islamic and European styles.
Next comes a visit to the Meenakshi Amman temple. This temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati, has 14 elaborately sculpted pillars. The temple is believed to have been built in the 1600’s.
After this you will return to your hotel to spend the night.
Day 10 Madurai – Dindigul ( 65 Kms - 1 Hrs 30 )
After breakfast, you will explore the local markets in Madurai before returning to your hotel for lunch. Afterwards, you will head to Dindigul. Dindigul has a glorious past associated with Tipu Sultan. It is famous for its lock manufacturing and weaving industries.
On arrival, you will check in to your hotel and have the day at leisure to relax. You will have dinner and spend the night at your hotel.
Day 11 Dindigul – Palakkad ( 170 Kms - 5 Hrs )
After breakfast, you will leave for Palakkad. A region blessed with lush greenery and abundant natural beauty, with rice fields dotting the landscape. On arrival, you will check into your hotel. After lunch, you will have the afternoon at leisure before turning in for the night.
Day 12 Palakkad
This morning, you will have breakfast at your hotel and head to visit the Palakkad Fort. This granite fort dates back to 1766 and is very well preserved. You will return to your hotel for lunch.
In the afternoon, you will visit the Malampuzha gardens, a favorite picnic spot that has beautifully landscaped gardens and a dam and reservoir. You will return to your hotel for dinner and spend the night.
Day 13 Palakkad – Cochin ( 140 Kms - 3 Hrs 30 )
After breakfast, you will leave Cochin, where you will check in to your hotel. You will have the day at leisure to explore the local markets and do some shopping. You will have dinner and spend the night at your hotel.
Day 14 Cochin
After breakfast, you will head to the airport to board your flight to your next destination.
EXTENSION LAKSHWADEEP
Day 14 Cochin - Agatti ~ Bangaram
After breakfast, you will be taken to the Cochin airport to catch a connecting flight to Agatti. Here, a representative from the Bangaram Island will help you board your motorboat that will take you to the island. Between July and September, you can reach the island by helicopter as well.
Day 15 & 16 Bangaram Island
You can spend the next couple of days exploring the magnificent Bangaram Island, which has pristine silver sand beaches, breathtaking blue lagoons, coral reefs, and coconut palms. You can also engage in a variety of water sports such as snorkeling and scuba diving. Bangaram Island is also an ideal place to enjoy deep sea fishing.
Day 17 Bangaram ~ Agatti - Cochin
Post breakfast you will head back to Agatti by boat to catch your connecting flight to Cochin. After checking into the hotel Cochin you may have lunch. You will have some time to rest, before heading to the airport to board your return flight.
EXTENSION MARARIKULAM
Day 13 Pallakad-Mararikulam ( 210 Kms - 4 Hrs 30 )
This morning you will have breakfast and drive to Mararikulam. Marari offers a glimpse into traditional fishing villages with vast expanses of pristine beaches. Full of local charm, this area makes an idyllic holiday spot.
On arrival, you will check in to your hotel and have some free time to enjoy the beach. You will return to your hotel to spend the night.
Day 14 Mararikulam
Today you can spend time on the beautiful beaches. You can also try and Ayurvedic treatments and massages and visit the town and local temple.
You will spend the night at your hotel.
Day 15 Mararikulam – Allepey – Mararikulam ( 15 Kms - 30 Mins )
After breakfast, you will drive to Alleppey for a day cruise on the backwaters of Kerala. You have lunch on board flanked by the swaying palms. Once you disembark you will drive back to Marari where you will spend the night at your hotel.
Day 16 Mararikulam - Cochin ( 53 Kms - 1 Hrs 30 )
After breakfast this morning, you will leave for Cochin. Here you will check in to your hotel on arrival. You will have the day at leisure and have some time for shopping in the local markets. Later, you will head to the airport to board your flight home.
INSERTION MUNNAR
Day 07 Cochin - Munnar ( 140 Kms - 4 Hrs )
This morning, after breakfast, you will drive through the beautiful landscapes towards Munnar.
You will arrive and check in to the hotel. After lunch you will visit the tea museum in Munnar. The Tea Museum at Munnar depicts the journey and efforts of the pioneers to helped make this region into a major tea plantation centre. Tea lovers will be particularly fascinated by the various stages of tea processing.
You will also visit a local market and soak up the local flavors.
You will return to your hotel to spend the night.
Day 08 Munnar - Periyar ( 110 Kms - 2 Hrs 30 )
After breakfast, you will drive to Periyar and visit the lush tea gardens en route. On arrival, you will check in to your hotel and have lunch.
In the evening, you will have some leisure time to enjoy an Ayurvedic massage or enjoy a performance of Kalaripayttu, which is perhaps one of the oldest forms of martial arts in existence and includes grappling, wrestling, kicks and weaponry. You will spend the night at your hotel.
