Day 01 Mumbai

This evening you will depart form the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in Mumbai. You will have dinner and spend the night aboard the train.

Day 02 Mumbai - Sindhudurg Nagari

This morning you will arrive at the Sindhudurg Nagari Railway station. After breakfast, you will leave for the Malvan Jetty via an air-conditioned bus. The old town of Malvan is almost hidden by palms. This quaint and charming region has a beautiful beach where you can sometimes see the seabed through a depth of approximately 20feet. In the distance, you will be able to see the fishing trawlers on the horizon.

The rocky terrain of Malvan is also home to the Sindhugdurg Fort. You will have the opportunity to explore the fortress built by the Maratha warrior Shivaji in 1664. The fort was built to protect the are from foreign invasions.

You will then return to the Jetty and head to the Tarkali beach resort. Here you will have lunch and some free time to relax and enjoy the beach.

After this you will head on the Dhamapur village. This is a typical village on the Konkan coast of India, serene and unpolluted. The beautiful clear lake is a paradise for nature lovers.

En route to Dhamapur, you will visit a cashew nut factory and have a chance to see first hand one of the most important industries of the region.

At Dhamapur, you will visit the ancient temple of Goddess Bhagawati and Bharadi Devi. These temples are highly renowned and thousands of pilgrims come here to request of the deities and also to give thanks when their wished have been fulfilled.

Next you will proceed by bus to the Kudal Railway Station and board the train. You will have dinner and spend the night on board.

Day 03 Sindhudurg Nagari - Goa

This morning you will arrive at Karmali in Goa. The beautiful beaches, silvery sands, charming churches and rich cultural heritage make Goa every holidaymaker’s paradise. After breakfast, you will board the bus to Old Goa and visit St Augustine Church. The Church of St Augustine was built by 12 Augustan friars in 1602. The haunting ruins of the church include a bell tower that housed a bell that has since been shifted to the church of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception.

Next you will visit the Fontanhas, the Latin Quarters of Panjim. The area is famous for its brightly painted buildings with narrow streets and wooden balconies.

You will then head to the Verne Railway Station to board the train. You will have lunch on board and have some free time to relax. In the evening you will head to your beach hotel to enjoy Goan culture and traditional cuisine.

Afterwards, you will board the train at Madgaon Railway station and spend the night on board.

Day 04 Goa - Kolahpur

This morning you will arrive at Kolhapur city. The city of Kolhapur is situated on the banks of the Panchganga River. It is a blend of both modern technologies and ancient traditions. Kolhapur has a rich cultural heritage and abundant natural resources.

After breakfast you will visit the New Palace. Built in 1884, the architecture of the Palace combines Jain and Hindu influences. The first floor continues to be a royal residence, while the ground floor houses a collection of memorabilia including weapons, costumes and even silver elephant saddles!

Next you will visit the Mahalaxmi temple, which is dedicated to the goddess of prosperity. The temple is built in an architectural style known as ‘Hemandpanthi’ and has a unique monolithic idol embedded with precious stones.

Afterwards you will visit the Shalini Palace. The palace stands on the west bank of the Rankala Lake amongst lush palm trees. The architecture of the palace, with its magnificent archways, is breathtaking.

You will then board the train at Kolhapur station. You will have lunch on board and have some to relax before turning in for the night.

Day 05 Kolahpur - Aurangabad

This morning you will arrive at the Daulatabad station. After breakfast, you will visit the majestic fort of Daulatabad. Situated near the city of Aurungabad, the fort was built in the 12th century atop a hill. This well preserved fort was impregnable thanks to its thick walls, deep trench, spiked gates and a network of subsurface passages.

Next you will visit the caves at Ellora. Excavations at the Ellora caves have revealed Hindu, Buddhist and Jain temples and monasteries. The caves at Ellora have been designated a World Heritage site and the finest examples of Indian rock cut architecture.

You will then have lunch and some free time to relax.

Afterwards you will visit the Bibi ka Maqbara. This mausoleum was constructed in the 17th century under the patronage of Prince Azam Shah, the son of Emperor Aurungzeb as a tribute to his mother. Since this monument has long been compared to the Taj Mahal, its beauty has often been overlooked.

You will then have time for some shopping before boarding the train at the Aurungabad railway station. You will have dinner and spend the night on board.

Day 06 Aurangabad - Chandrapur

This morning you will arrive at the Chandrapur Railway station. After breakfast, you travel by jeep to the Tadoba Wildlife Sanctuary. This is the oldest reserve in the state of Maharashtra and consists of dry deciduous forests. The main attractions here are the tigers, barking deer, sloth bears and an abundance of other wildlife.

You will then return to the Deccan Odyssey and have lunch on board. You will have some free time before you arrive at the Wardha Railway station in the late afternoon.

You will then travel by bus to Sevagram. This small village served as the headquarters of Mahatma Gandhi’s ashram. Along with his wife, Gandhi lived here in a small typical village home with very few amenities. Eventually, the ashram was converted into an institution from here Gandhi and his followers worked.

In the evening, you will return to the Deccan Odyssey. You will have dinner and spend the night on board.

Day 07 Chandrapur - Bhusawal

This morning you will arrive at the Bhusawal railway station. After breakfast you will travel by bus to visit the Ajanta Caves. Another World Heritage Site, these ancient caves contain spectacular Buddhist paintings and sculptures dating back to the 2nd century BCE.

At noon, you will board the train at Jalgaon station. You will head to Nashik and have lunch on board.

The city of Nashik is known for its pleasant climate and picturesque beauty. Located on the banks of the Godavari River, the architecture of the city is characterized by courtyard houses or ‘wadas’.

On arrival in Nashik, you will board a bus to visit the Panchavati Ghat. Legend has it the Lord Ram and his wife Sita stayed at Panchavati for some time and so this place is extremely revered and attracts many pilgrims.

Next you will visit the Kalaram Temple. Built by the Peshwas with black stones, this temple hosts large scale processions on Hindu festivals.

In the evening, you will board the train at the Deolali railway station and enjoy a farewell dinner on board.

Day 08 Bhusawal - Mumbai

This morning you will return to Mumbai after a memorable trip.
