Day 01 Delhi

You will board your train, Palace on Wheels at the Safdarjung Railway Station and leave for Jaipur. You will have dinner and spend the night on board.

Day 02 Delhi - Jaipur

After breakfast on board the train, you will have the opportunity to explore the ‘Pink City’ of Jaipur. First you will visit the Hawa Mahal. Hawa Mahal or the Palace of Winds is a popular landmark in Jaipur. Built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh. Made of pink sand stone, the façade is almost pyramid shaped and adorned with latticework. Next you will see the Amber Fort. Bordering the Maota Lake, this beautiful citadel merges both Hindu and Mughal style of architecture. The greatest way to explore the fort is to ride up to it on an elephant!

Afterwards, you will have chance to see the Govt Emporium that houses traditional arts and crafts and perhaps pick up some souvenirs of your trip.

After lunch, you will visit the City Palace. The City Palace is in fact a palace complex built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh. Many of the rooms have been turned into museums and galleries allowing visitors to catch a glimpse of Rathasthan’s regal past.

After lunch in the city, you will then get to explore the Jantar Mantar, an astronomical observatory dating back to around 1730.

You will then return to the train, have dinner and spend the night on board.

Day 03 Jaipur - Sawaimadhopur - Chittorgarh

This morning the Palace on Wheels arrives in Sawai Madhopur. After breakfast, you will visit the Ranthambore National Park.

One of the largest national parks in the country, it is most famous for its tigers. The dry deciduous forests make tiger spotting easy. It also houses other big cats, as well wild boar, hyena and many other animals. Ranthambore is also home to one of the largest banyan trees in India.

You will then return to the train, leaving for Chittorgarh and have lunch on board.

On arrival, you will visit the Chittorgarh Fort. Built in the 7th century, this massive fort complex occupies almost 700 acres of land and is the largest fort in Rajasthan. Its history includes sagas of valor in battle, chivalry and sacrifice.

You will then return to the train, where you will have dinner and spend the night on board.

Day 04 Chittorgarh - Udaipur

After breakfast on board the train, you will visit the Lake Palace at Udaipur. Built in the 1740’s, the Lake Palace, now a luxury hotel, is located on a rock in Lake Pichola. Lined with courtyards, fountains and pillars, this beautiful structure is a truly a marvel.

Next you will visit the Jag Mandir Palace. Situated on the southern edge of Lake Pichola. Completed in the 1600’s, it was used a summer resort by the royal family.

After lunch, you will visit the City Palace. This flamboyant palace complex offers panoramic views of the city and its surroundings.

A visit to Udaipur would not be complete without seeing the Crystal Gallery at the Fateh Prakash Palace. The precious crystal items inside the palace include fountains, tables and even beds. Maharaja Sajjan Singh ordered these fantastic artifacts but did not live to see the crystal gallery in its splendor because of his untimely demise.

You will then return to the train, heading to Jaisalmer. You will have dinner and spend the night on board.

Day 05 Udaipur - Jaisalmer

This morning, the train arrives in Jaisalmer. This town lies in the heart of the Thar Desert and is a place filled with color and tradition. Founded in 1156 A.D Jaisalmer was once a major trade centre on the trading route between India and the west. Today, thousands of tourists come here annually to experience some of its magical charm.

After breakfast, you will visit the various ‘havelies’ in the area. Jaisalmer is dotted with havelies or private mansions with intricately latticed and conspicuous facades. Rajasthan is famous for this type of architecture and Jaisalmer has some of the finest examples.

You will then spend some time browsing the Rajasthan Govt Emporium enjoying the local arts and crafts and perhaps picking up souvenirs of your trip.

After lunch on board the train, you will head for an exciting camel ride on the sand dunes. You will get a glimpse of the sheer and stark beauty of the desert and this is guaranteed to be an unforgettable experience!

You will then have dinner and have the opportunity to watch some cultural programs at your hotel.

Afterwards, you will return to the train, heading for Jodhpur. You will have dinner and spend the night on board.

Day 06 Jaisalmer - Jodhpur

After breakfast on board, you will visit the Mehrangarh Fort. This spectacular fort made from red sandstone, stands on a perpendicular cliff above the skyline of Jodhpur. The foundations of this fort were laid in 1459. Today it houses a museum with a fine collection of arms, costumes, paintings and even a collection of palanquins.

Next you will visit the Jaswant Thada, a marble cenotaph built to commemorate Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. The intricately carved façade, domes and pillars make this a site to behold.

You will also visit the other royal cenotaphs in the region. Each of these, built with great pride and attention to detail, is a magnificent monument and gives an understanding of the reverence accorded to the royal families in Rajasthan.

You will have lunch at the Royal Palace Hotel. You will then return to the Palace on Wheels, where you will have dinner and spend the night.

Day 07 Jodhpur - Bharatpur

After breakfast on board, you will visit the Keoladeo Ghana National Park, formerly known as the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. This sanctuary is unique as it was actually man-made. The Maharaja of Bharatpur created an artificial lake and dam in the area to store the water that was brought in by the annual floods. This created a habitat for the flora and fauna of the region. The highlight of the area is the thousands of migratory birds that come from as far away as Siberia, to spend the winters.

You will have dinner and spend the night on the Palace on Wheels.

Day 08 Bharatpur - Agra

After breakfast on board, you will visit Fatehpur Sikri. Built by the emperor Akbar about 35 kms from Agra, Fatehpur Sikri is home to many historical buildings. Akbar wanted to make Fatehpur Sikri his headquarters, however, he had to abandon it due to shortage of water. Today, Fatehpur Sikri is a UNESCO World heritage site.

After lunch, you will visit the Red Fort. The Red Fort, also called the Agra Fort, was commissioned in 1565 by Akbar. Later Shah Jahan used it as a palace. The beautiful yet forbidding structure is a beautiful example of North Indian Mughal architecture.

Next you will visit the Taj Mahal. Considered to be one of the Seven Wonders of the World, this gem of a monument defies description. The Taj Mahal is actually a mausoleum, commissioned by Enperor Shah Jahan in loving memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal. Construction of this marble wonder began in 1632 and was completed around 1653. Thousands of labourers were employed to construct the monument, that is replete with decorate inlays, carvings and calligraphy. To this very day, the Taj is considered an architectural marvel.

You will return to the train, have dinner and spend the night on board.

Day 09 Agra - Delhi.

This morning you will arrive in Delhi after a memorable journey.

EXTENSION GOA
Day 10 Delhi - Goa

After breakfast, you will head to the airport to catch your flight to Goa. Located on the western coast of India, Goa is the smallest India state. Known for its fantastic beaches and historical churches, Goa still exhibits its history as a Portuguese colony.

On arrival, you will check into your hotel. After lunch, you will visit the Church of St Francis of Assisi. This church, originally built around 1551, by a group of Franciscan friars, was later demolished. The present church was built in 1661. After the Portuguese closed the convent in 1835, it fell into a state of disrepair. In 1964, the Archaeological Survey of India resurrected the church, and it now also houses a museum.

Next you will visit the Cathedral of Bom Jesus. This Basilica has long attracted Catholics from all over the world as it houses the mortal remains of St Francis Xavier, the patron saint of Goa. His body is embalmed in glass coffin inside a silver coffin.

After visiting the churches, you will walk through the old Portuguese colonies. You will then return to your hotel where you will spend the night.

Day 11 & 12 Goa

Over the next couple of days, you can explore the magnificent beaches of Goa. The many fine sand beaches in Goa have something to offer everyone. Whether it is quiet relaxation, busy flea markets, bars and parties or local cuisine, Goa’s beaches have it all.

Day 13 Goa - Delhi

After breakfast, you will head to the airport to board your flight to Delhi. You may also choose to fly to Mumbai to catch your flight to your next destination. A room to wash and change before your return flight will be arranged so that you can relax before your flight.

EXTENSION ANANDA
Day 10 Delhi - Haridwar Or Dheradun - Ananda

Today you will either travel by train to Haridwar or by flight to Dehradun to make your way to Ananda in the Himalayas. This beautiful spa hotel is located in the foothills of the Himalayas. Peaceful and tranquil, this is the perfect location to relax, detox and unwind. The spa hotel offers yoga, meditation and ayurvedic remedies for your mind and body.

After checking in, you can spend the rest of your day relaxing at the hotel.

Day 11 & 12 Ananda

After breakfast, you can try the various wellness regimes on offer at the hotel. Traditional yoga, and Ayurveda can be combined with the finest international wellness experiences to rejuvenate you mind, body and spirit.

After a truly rejuvenating couple of days, you will spend the night at your hotel before heading out the next morning.

Day 13 Ananda - Haridwar Or Dehradun - Delhi

After breakfast, you will either board the train to Delhi from Haridwar or leave for Dehradun to catch your flight back to Delhi.

You will spend the night at your hotel in Delhi.

Day 14 Delhi

After breakfast, you will visit Humayun’s tomb. Commissioned by Humayun’s wife Hamida Banu Begum in 1562, it was the first garden tomb built in the Indian sub-continent. The Persian architect used red sandstone on a large scale and this UNESCO world heritage site represented a huge leap for Mughal architecture.

Next, you will visit the Qutab Minar. This is the tallest brick minaret in the world, commissioned by Qutbuddin Aibak, the first Muslim ruler of Delhi. His successors continued to enhance the structure, with the final storey added in 1386.

You will have lunch in the city, and then prepare for your flight back home. Your Kamalan representative will assist you to board your flight.

EXTENSION AMRITSAR
Day 10 Delhi - Amritsar

After breakfast, you will head to the station to board your train to Amritsar. On arrival, you will check into your hotel and have lunch. Then you will head to explore the city of Amritsar. Situated in the northwestern region of India, Amritsar is close to India’s border with Pakistan. The city is well known for the Golden Temple and its warm and hospitable people.

You will start with a visit to the Golden Temple. This is the most significant temple for the Sikh community. The ‘langar’ or community kitchen serves free meals all year round to roughly 40,000 visitors a day. It is truly a remarkable experience to visit this place of worship.

After this, you will visit the Jallianwala Bagh. This small park was the site of a massacre in 1919 spearheaded by a British general. This event caused general unrest and agitations and was one of the precursors to India’s struggle for freedom.

Next you will visit the Durgiana temple. Dedicated to the Goddess Durga, this temple is based on the architecture of the Golden Temple. You will then visit Rambagh, the palace and gardens of the Maharaja Ranjit Singh. The summer palace has now been converted into a museum holding weapons and portraits.

Day 11 Amritsar - Delhi By Train

This morning you will begin with an early morning visit to the Golden Temple. You will then return to your hotel for breakfast. Then you head to the station to board the train to Delhi. You will be met by your Kamalan representative who will help you check into your hotel where you will spend the night.

Day 12 Delhi

EXTENSION SHIMLA
Day 10 Delhi - Shimla

After breakfast at the hotel, you will fly to Shimla, located in the northwest Himalayas. The British, who made Shimla their summer capital, dubbed it ‘Queen of the Hills’.

On arrival, you will check in to you hotel where you will have some time to relax. Your hotel, situated at 8250 feet, will allow you to enjoy beautiful views of the mountains and valleys. You may also enjoy the outdoor Jacuzzi and heated pool. You can take plenty of walks in the trails nearby that allow you to enjoy the fragrant pine forests.

You will spend the night at your hotel.

Day 11 & 12 Shimla

After breakfast, you explore the hill station of Shimla. You can take a walk along the Mall Road, which is the main shopping street with plenty of shops, restaurant and bars. People usually take their time strolling down Mall Road, stopping to chat and meet up with their friends.

You will also visit Christ Church, the second oldest church in the country with beautiful stained glass windows.

Next you will visit the nearby Jakhu Hill. Situated at 8,000 feet, this peak allows beautiful views of the town and the snow-capped Himalayan Mountains. A temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman is located at the top of the hill and is also home to hundreds of monkeys all eager to be fed!

Kufri, located 13 kms away from Shimla has a small Himayalan Zoo as and has a popular ski track.

The scenic beauty of Shimla and the surrounding areas allow plenty of opportunities for mountain bicycling, horse riding and river rafting. You will then return to your hotel to spend the night.

Day 13 Shimla - Delhi

After breakfast, you will head to the airport to catch your flight back to Delhi. You will be met by your Kamalan representative on your arrival. You will have the chance to wash and change before catching your flight back home.

Extension Varanasi-Khajuraho
Day 10 Delhi - Khajuraho

After breakfast you will fly to Khajuraho. The town of Khajuraho is famous for the legendary Khajuraho temples, which belong to both the Hindu and Jain faiths. Built in the time of the Chandela Dynasty, the temples were built between the 9th and the 12th century. Though only 20 of the original 85 temples survive, the facades of these temples are a sight to behold. They are replete with erotic sculptures and depictions of dance, music and other creative arts.

On arrival you will check into your hotel and have lunch. In the evening you will leave to visit the Eastern temples of Khajuraho. The Eastern temple sof Khajuraho are situated close to the village. Few of the Jain temples in the area are still in use. The temples have fine sculptures without sensuous themes. One of the oldest temples in Khajuraho, which is mostly in ruins is also situated here.

Next you will visit the Western Temples of Khajuraho. The Western group of temples is entirely Hindu and contain some of the most erotic sculptures found in a place of worship. These temples are considered to be the most evolved temple architecture and represent the Chandela dynasty at its peak.

Day 11 Khajuraho - Varanasi

After breakfast, you will have some time to relax. You will head to the airport to catch your flight to Varanasi after an early lunch. The ancient city of Varanasi on the banks of the River Ganges is considered the holiest city for Hindu pilgrims. Hindus believe that bathing in the Ganges at Varanasi will remit their sins. It is also considered a holy city for Buddhists, believed to have been designated a pilgrimage site by Gautama Buddha himself. A city of temples, art, literature and education, the atmosphere in Varanasi is completely unique.

On arrival, you will check into your hotel.

In the evening, you will witness the Aarti ceremony at the ghats. Every evening, this prayer ceremony is performed amidst pealing bells and hundreds of pilgrims. Ritual lamps are lit, signifying the light of wisdom, offering pilgrims the chance to purify themselves. This deeply touching experience is truly a sight to behold.

You will then return to your hotel to spend the night.

Day 12 Varanasi - Delhi

Early this morning you will leave for a boat ride on the Ganges. This enthralling experience will allow you to witness people offering their prayers, professional washer men doing the laundry as well people waking up to do their daily chores.

You will also discover the narrow lanes of Varanasi. These old serpentine lines will allow you to experience the life of the local people, which is almost reminiscent of a bygone era.

After breakfast at the hotel, you will head to the airport to board your flight back to Delhi. On arrival in Delhi, you will have the opportunity to wash and change before catching your flight home.
